Jim Carrey's heartbreaking farewell to Chuck Russell after his death

Jim Carrey recently broke his silence after the tragic death of The Mask director Chuck Russell.

The actor said in a statement shared with People magazine, “I consider it a privilege to have worked with Chuck, who during the shooting of The Mask, created an ebullient, childlike atmosphere of wonder and camaraderie on his set.”

“The entire cast and crew were touched and inspired by his playfulness,” the 64-year-old continued.

For the unversed, Carrey rose to fame with his role on the 1994 superhero comedy, which was helmed by late Russell. The movie also served as Cameron Diaz‘s debut, in which she played singer Tina Carlyle, Carrey’s onscreen love interest.

Carrey explained, “Every one of us has been many years blessed by that buoyant and timeless moment.”

“I consider The Mask one of the jewels of my creative life. Thank you, Chuck,” the actor expressed.

Russell passed away at his home in the San Diego area on July 22, his family told TMZ.

The late director also worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1996 on Eraser and later directed Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s first leading role in 2002’s The Scorpion King.

Russell’s last directed movie released in 2025 was a remake of the 1986 film Witchboard, which he also wrote as well.

The late director is survived by his wife of 19 years and their three children.
