Ben Affleck’s world turned upside down after heartbreaking loss

Ben Affleck is mourning the heartbreaking loss of his mother, Chris Anne Affleck, who has died aged 82 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Chris passed away on June 2, with her family confirming the sad news in a Legacy obituary published on Thursday.

According to the tribute, she was diagnosed with the illness last December and was told she may only have months to live.

Despite her devastating diagnosis, she remained determined to make one final special memory and that was seeing her grandson graduate from high school. 

She attended the ceremony on May 31, just days before she peacefully died in her sleep.

The beloved mother is survived by her sons Ben and Casey Affleck, along with her grandchildren.

For the unversed, Casey’s children Indiana and Atticus, and Ben’s children Fin, Violet and Samuel.

Chris lived a remarkable life beyond being the mother of two Hollywood stars. 

A Harvard University graduate, she spent years working as a public school teacher before retiring in 2008. 

Her obituary described her classroom as a place where every student was treated equally, regardless of their background.

Casey previously opened up about his mother’s strong values, describing her as “very conscientious” and recalling how she encouraged family traditions and pushed her sons to experience the world beyond their comfort zones.

Chris also played a key role in shaping Ben and Casey’s acting careers. 

Alongside their father Timothy, she encouraged the brothers to audition for commercials and local productions, helping The Accountant star land one of his earliest roles in a Burger King advert.

He later became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, winning an Oscar with Matt Damon for Good Will Hunting and famously bringing his mother as his date to the 1998 Academy Awards.
