Singer Chris Brown pleads guilty to affray in London club assault case

American singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray in connection with a violent confrontation at a London nightclub in 2023 bringing a significant development in a case that has drawn widespread attention.

The 36-year-old appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Friday where he admitted the lesser offence alongside his co-defendant and vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu.

Brown attended court wearing a tan suit, gold-rimmed sunglasses and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap accompanied by security personnel as a small group of fans gathered outside the courthouse.

Both men had previously denied more serious charges of grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon which were dropped following their guilty pleas.

The charges stem from an incident at Tape which is a private members' club in London's Mayfair district on February 19, 2023 after Brown had performed in Cardiff.

Prosecutors alleged that Brown launched an unprovoked attack on music producer Abraham Diaw striking him twice over the head with a glass bottle before Akinlolu joined the altercation by punching the victim. Diaw was then reportedly kicked while on the floor.

The Grammy-winning singer is scheduled to be sentenced in October. The singer has faced several other legal controversies throughout his career.
