Jason Bateman's wild past comes back to haunt him

Jason Bateman has lifted the lid on one of the wildest moments from his partying past.

The 57-year-old actor revealed that he was once arrested in Monaco after a booze-fuelled night that ended with him wearing a leopard-print outfit and landing in police custody.

The Ozark star made the candid confession on his SmartLess podcast, admitting he had gone from the casino tables to the streets after one too many glasses of cheap Champagne. 

Laughing at the memory, Bateman recalled being "drunk and disorderly" while sporting what he described as a "nice little leopard outfit" and carrying a pocket full of casino chips.

Although he didn't reveal exactly when the incident happened, the Black Rabbit actor said it came during the years before he turned his life around. 

His heavy drinking eventually became a source of tension with wife Amanda Anka, whom he married in 2001.

Bateman has previously shared that the couple had several honest conversations about his lifestyle before he decided enough was enough. 

Rather than dragging out the process, he chose to quit drinking and hard drugs sooner than planned to ease the strain on their relationship.

These days, the Hollywood favourite says he has stayed away from alcohol and what he jokingly called "the Scarface stuff" for decades, although he still considers himself "California sober", meaning he occasionally uses marijuana.

Looking back, Arrested Development star admitted he was fortunate his reckless years happened before smartphones and social media, joking that he "got away with a lot" that would almost certainly have gone viral today.
