Nick Reiner has reportedly become "unrecognisable" while awaiting trial in jail on charges accusing him of murdering his famous parents, with claims his physical and mental health are rapidly deteriorating.
The 32-year-old has been held at the Los Angeles Twin Towers Correctional Facility since December 2025 after being charged over the fatal stabbing deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner, 79, and his wife Michele Reiner, 70, at their Brentwood home.
Nick has pleaded not guilty, and prosecutors are seeking either life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty if he is convicted.
According to the Daily Mail, a source close to the family claimed his appearance has dramatically changed during his months behind bars.
"Nick no longer looks like Nick. He is rapidly deteriorating. No one would recognise him," the insider alleged, adding that he has lost a significant amount of weight, keeps his hair cropped extremely short and appears frail, with "very sunken" eyes.
The source also claimed Nick's mental health has worsened, saying: "He is like a babbling child, totally out of it. It's so bad his lawyers have a hard time talking to him."
His siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, are reportedly deeply worried about his condition, with the insider alleging they fear he may never recover and are concerned about the toll his incarceration is taking on his health.
Nick had reportedly been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had a history of drug addiction before the deaths of his parents.
It has also been claimed he previously caused damage to the family home during an alleged methamphetamine-fuelled incident.
Rob and Michele were found dead at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025 after suffering multiple stab wounds.
Their daughter, Romy, discovered their bodies. Nick remains in custody as he awaits trial.
