Pat McAfee has revealed that he almost skipped Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's star-studded wedding after mistakenly assuming his invitation was a phishing scam.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, the ESPN host admitted he ignored several emails and text messages about the July 3 ceremony at New York City's Madison Square Garden because he believed they were fake.
McAfee said the invitations seemed too elaborate to be genuine, prompting him to delete them without responding.
It was only after Kelce personally reached out that McAfee realized he had made a mistake.
According to the broadcaster, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end texted him directly to ask why he had not replied to the RSVP.
After opening the invitation link, McAfee discovered his name on the guest list and realized the messages had been authentic all along.
As per People, he later joked that Taylor Swift's signature "Easter eggs" and creative details had made the invitation appear almost too elaborate to believe.
McAfee and his wife, Samantha, ultimately attended the lavish ceremony, which brought together celebrities from the worlds of sports, music and entertainment.
Reflecting on the event, he described it as "the most spectacular evening" he had ever experienced and praised the newlyweds' happiness throughout the celebration.
Furthermore, the wedding has continued to generate headlines in the days since, with several celebrity guests sharing their experiences while respecting the couple's request for privacy.
