Marvel villain 'Madame Gao' actress Wai Ching Ho dies aged 82

Veteran actress Wai Ching Ho who is best known for portraying the mysterious villain Madame Gao in Marvel's Daredevil has died at the age of 82.

Her death was announced by former Daredevil co-star Peter Shinkoda who shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.

"Just lost someone very special to me. She was one of the coolest," he wrote alongside a photo of Ho, later adding, "I won't ever forget you. I learned every minute from you when we were together on and off set. We will meet again, my friend."

Actor Perry Yung later revealed that Ho had passed away peacefully after suffering a stroke.

"Wai Ching was a kind, compassionate human being whose work as an artist lifted every production to a higher standard, and we are better for it," he wrote.

Actress Mahira Kakkar also remembered Ho as "warm, funny, caring, joyful, positive and a truly wonderful actor" praising her generosity and describing her as a role model for many performers.

The Hong Kong born star became widely recognised for playing Madame Gao in Marvel's Daredevil before reprising the role in Iron Fist and The Defenders.

Beyond the Marvel universe Ho appeared in films including Premium Rush, Hustlers and Turning Red where she voiced Grandma Wu.

She also remained active on stage throughout her career appearing in numerous productions including Celine Song's off-Broadway play Endlings.
