James Handy’s final film project has been shelved in the wake of his tragic death, according to the movie’s producer.
Handy, best known for his appearances in films such as Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji, died on June 3 at the age of 81 after being found with stab wounds outside a residence in Tarzana, California.
Authorities later arrested Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy’s girlfriend, in connection with the killing.
According to Daily Mail, the late actor’s final project, a comedy titled Kickback, V, has now been abandoned.
Writer and producer Heidi Anderson-Swan revealed that the film had already encountered several obstacles during pre-production, including funding difficulties, before Handy’s death ultimately brought the project to a halt.
Moreover, the comedy was reportedly set to follow a group of socially awkward students learning martial arts and developing a close bond with their karate instructor.
Anderson-Swan described Handy as one of the kindest people she had worked with in Hollywood and recalled the support he offered her early in her career.
As per the outlet, she said his generosity and willingness to help others made him an essential part of the project.
Handy enjoyed a career spanning nearly five decades, earning close to 150 screen credits across film and television.
Alongside memorable roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji, he also appeared in productions including Logan, The West Wing, and The X-Files.
