Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about one thing that has been disturbing her deeply.
The American singer recently released her lead single, Drop Dead, for the upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
Upon releasing the music video of the song and then later performing it live at the Spotify’s Billions Club Live concert, the wardrobe choices landed her in hot waters after netizens critisiced her.
Notably, the driver's license singer was seen wearing a baby-doll dress, which made the online community call her out for "infantilizing and sexualising" the look.
Breaking her silence on the topic in the New York Times Popcast, she confessed, "That’s been making me so upset, Not even for me. People can say whatever they want. What’s really disturbing is I have worn outfits that are maybe revealing on stage."
She added, "I’ve been on stage in a sparkly bra and little shorts, which is my right, that’s fun, I felt cool and comfortable in that and that wasn’t inappropriate,"
The Grammy Award winner was of the opinion after the incident, that, "we really normalize pedophilia in our culture,"
The 22-year-old continued, "but me fully covered up in a dress that people deemed to be childlike was inappropriate."
"It’s just this rhetoric we’re fed as girls since we’re so little, which is, don’t wear that because then a man is going to sexualize your body and it’s your fault. It’s so weird.” The upset actress concluded.
It is to be noted that Olivia has also revealed that for the look, she got inspiration from stars like Kathleen Hanna or Courtney Love and said that they are her "heroes."
