Dick Parry, who contributed some of the most unforgettable saxophone solos to rock music, has passed away at 83.
The musician’s death was confirmed by the Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour on social media, since the former collaborated with the band on some of their greatest hits.
“My dear friend Dick Parry died this morning. Since I was seventeen, I have played in bands with Dick on saxophone, including Pink Floyd,” the 80-year-old began.
“His feel and tone make his saxophone playing unmistakable, a signature of enormous beauty that is known to millions and is such a big part of songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Us and Them and Money,” Gilmour added.
The songwriter added that the duo played in their last band together, which included Rick Wright for the On An Island Tour and at Live 8 with Pink Floyd.
Gilmour also shared some snaps of him with the late Parry from the time they played together for the ABC Minors at the Victoria Cinema in Cambridge in 1963 in his social media statement.
Notably, the cause of death for the now-deceased musician has not been made public as of yet, but tributes have started pouring in from saddened fans and fellow musicians.
