Home is where the heart is, an adage that is synonymous with Bill Gates’ lavish mansion worth billions of dollars.
The Microsoft cofounder’s sprawling residence instantly garners attention online with its high-tech features and standout amenities.
Bill, who is a big name in global technology, has been living in this mansion for more than three decades.
Interestingly, the name of the house is Xanadu 2.0, which is exactly located in Medina, a quiet and affluent suburb overlooking Lake Washington.
Bill’s house, which is worth an estimated $124 billion according to Forbes, started building before his marriage to Melinda French Gates in 1994.
The name was coined by the philanthropist’s biographers, which is considered to be one of the biggest yet tech-friendly houses in the locality.
It is pertinent to mention that architects James Cutler and Peter Bohlin designed the structure, while AD100 interior designer Thierry Despont shaped the interiors of Xanadu 2.0.
To note, the 66,000 square feet house features seven bedrooms, six kitchens and twenty-four bathrooms.
There is also reception hall large enough for 150 guests alongside an underground garage built for ten cars.
What’s special about this house is the addition of unique technology, which feels simple at first but it’s not.
Whenever a guest enters the residence, they are handed over a small electronic pin which tracks the movement as they pass through different rooms.
Another feature is light colour changes as they get into the room and surprisingly, the temperature itself adjusts to your preference without a visible command.
The house also features long walls with digital screens that rotate curators’ artwork – be it classical pieces and modern art from Bill’s collection.
“My house is being designed and constructed so that it’s a bit ahead of its time,” wrote the Microsoft cofounder in 1995.
Meanwhile, other key amenities include a huge library with a Leonardo da Vinci manuscript valued at around $8 million, an artificial stream runs across the grounds as well as a 60-foot pool stretches beneath the house.
