Cher recently opened up about the brutal advice she received in her earlier years, almost leading her to acting.
The pop icon made a candid appearance on The Howard Stern Show on May 16 where she reflected on her journey as a singer and actress as well as shared insights about her personal life.
While looking back at the past, the After All singer recalled advice from legendary moviemaker Mike Nichols before she became an Oscar-nominated actress.
At the time, she was dating music mogul David Geffen and was trying to get auditions but major moviemakers were not interested.
During that period, she met Mike, who immediately turned her down, saying, “Cher, there’s only two kinds of women, and you’re not the right one.”
The director also rejected her to audition for the role but she didn’t give up.
Cher remembered replying to Mike, “I’m talented, and someday you’re going to be sorry.”
Despite the rejection, the Little Man crooner revealed that Mike did say that he would “keep her in mind” for future projects.
Years later, Mike stayed true to his words and gave her the biggest breakthroughs of her acting career.
He eventually cast Cher opposite Meryl Streep in the 1983 drama Silkwood, where she played Dolly Pelliker, a close friend of Karen Silkwood, portrayed by Meryl.
For the unversed, the performance reportedly earned the singer her very first Academy Award nomination and later, she was considered as a serious actress in Hollywood.
