Lionsgate has officially announced a live theatrical adaptation of The Housemaid, continuing the rapid expansion of the hit psychological thriller franchise.
The announcement follows the overwhelming success of the 2025 film adaptation, which starred Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, and reportedly earned nearly $400 million worldwide.
The stage production is being developed alongside producers Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska of Melting Pot, while playwright Bekah Brunstetter, known for Broadway’s The Notebook, has been tapped to write the script.
Originally published in 2022, The Housemaid follows Millie, a struggling young woman who takes a job with a wealthy family, only to uncover disturbing secrets hidden within their home.
The novel became a global bestseller and later expanded into a trilogy with The Housemaid’s Secret and The Housemaid Is Watching.
Lionsgate executives said the story’s claustrophobic setting, emotional depth and suspenseful twists make it a natural fit for the stage.
Furthermore, the company also confirmed that production on the sequel film, The Housemaid’s Secret, is expected to begin later this year ahead of its planned 2027 release.
