Matt Damon has opened up about the gruelling experience of filming Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey.

The 55-year-old Hollywood actor admitted that he approached the blockbuster as though it could be the final film of his career.

Damon stars as Odysseus in the much-talked-about adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek tale, alongside a jaw-dropping cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.

Speaking candidly about the demanding production, he revealed that he gave the role absolutely everything he had.

“There aren't a lot of people in their mid-50s as protagonists in these epics,” he admitted.

“I looked at this like the last movie I’d ever do.”

The Oscar-winning actor described the fantasy adventure as the most rewarding project of his career, praising director Nolan for refusing to rely heavily on green screens and instead opting for large-scale practical filmmaking.

“Movies like this are not getting made anymore,” Good Will Hunting actor said, comparing Nolan’s vision to legendary filmmaker David Lean’s classic style.

He also revealed the 55-year-old filmmaker was constantly by the cast’s side during physically exhausting shoots.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man star Holland confessed he signed onto the film before even reading the script, calling the offer “the phone call of a lifetime” and comparing the excitement to landing his iconic Marvel role nearly a decade ago.
