Nedra Talley Ross has passed away at 80, with the heartbreaking news being confirmed by the group’s official account.
In a post shared on social media, The Ronettes last living member’s death news was made public with no cause being revealed.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Nedra Talley Ross’ passing. She was a light to those who knew and loved her,” the post on Facebook began.
It added of Nedra, “As a founding member of The Ronettes, along with her beloved cousins Ronnie and Estelle, Nedra’s voice, style and spirit helped define a sound that would change music. Her contribution to the group’s story and their defining influence will live forever.”
They went on to thank the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer for the magical influence she brought to music alongside her cousins Veronica “Ronnie” Bennett (later Spector) and Estelle Bennett.
The Ronettes, although reigning briefly, were a major influence on the sound of the 60’s and their impact extended to pop music in the eras following.
Notably, the Be My Baby singers also broke down racial barriers because they were three young women with Puerto Rican and Black heritage.
