Amanda Seyfried has revealed she agreed to star in Octet, the upcoming musical film directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, despite initially knowing very little about the project.
Speaking at a recent event, Seyfried admitted she did not fully understand what Octet was when she was first approached, but chose to join the film based on her confidence in Miranda’s creative vision.
The film is an adaptation of Octet, a critically acclaimed a cappella chamber musical that explores themes of internet addiction and human connection through a support group of eight individuals navigating life in the digital age.
Seyfried, known for her musical roles in films like Mamma Mia!, plays Jessica, a character who confronts the emotional fallout of being publicly “cancelled” online.
According to People, she expressed excitement about returning to a music-driven project, highlighting her passion for singing and collaboration.
The star-studded ensemble cast includes Rachel Zegler, Jonathan Groff, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Phillipa Soo, and Gaten Matarazzo, among others, forming a tight-knit group central to the film’s narrative.
Directed by Miranda, Octet marks another ambitious step in his filmmaking career following the success of Tick, Tick… Boom!.
While a release date has yet to be announced, anticipation is already building around the project’s unique concept and ensemble-driven storytelling.
