Lucy Liu feels proud of Asian representation in Hollywood.

The actress’ lead role in the 2000’s Charlie’s Angels alongside Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz became a trailblazing moment for her to bring a change in the industry.

Realising the importance of her role in the movie, Lucy said that her “pride” is knowing that her character “was able to change the visual aspect of what American was, and to create that image that led the way for all other people”.

The actress also mentioned that she used to hear Destiny’s Child’s hit single, Independent Women, Part 1, which was played in public for more than two decades after it was released in 1990s.

“I've heard that song so many times in different places and it’s such a wonderful song,” explained the 57-year-old in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

Lucy noted that the song “kind of transports you” somewhere else but the reason the actress was connected to her for being name-dropped in Independent Women track.

The actress however quipped, “I guess it means you're a part of history.”

“I think it's incredible to have that value that was connected to Charlie's Angels,” she told the outlet as she referred to the song, which held the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot100 chart for eleven consecutive weeks at the time.

For those unaware, Independent Women, Part 1 was recorded by Destiny's Child — a group that comprised Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, who created this track for 2000's Charlie's Angels.
