Billy Porter has lifted the lid on a glaring fashion-world snub.
The 56-year-old star revealed that he hasn’t been invited back to the Met Gala since his jaw-dropping debut in 2019.
Porter, who turned heads with one of the most unforgettable entrances in Met history, admitted the silence from organisers has been impossible to ignore.
Despite the sting, he insists he’s made peace with it.
“I don’t go where I’m not welcome,” he said candidly, adding that he’s no longer seeking approval from the industry’s elite circles.
His only appearance came courtesy of Ryan Murphy, who invited him to the iconic event themed “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
And what an entrance it was carried in like royalty, dressed as a golden Egyptian sun god, complete with wings and a dramatic headdress.
The moment instantly went viral, cementing his status as a red carpet risk-taker.
But the snub hit hardest last year when the theme centred on Black dandyism, a cultural space many felt Porter had already championed.
Still, the Pose actor is choosing peace over pettiness.
“I’ve earned the invitation,” he said, coolly.
“But I’ve reached a place where I don’t need validation from the outside.”
The Cinderella star also reflected on reclaiming the word “camp,” describing it as “the art of being extra in its highest form”, a philosophy he embodied that night in spectacular style.
