Jane Fallon battles breast cancer with bravery

Author Jane Fallon has shared a candid update on her breast cancer battle, revealing surgeons have “basically got it all” after her recent operation.

The 65-year-old bestselling writer, and long-time partner of comedian Ricky Gervais, took to Instagram just days after surgery to reassure fans that her prognosis remains positive after an early diagnosis.

Jane, who discovered the cancer through a routine mammogram with no symptoms, said doctors successfully removed the tumour along with surrounding tissue. 

However, she admitted she will need to go under the knife once more to ensure a “clear margin”, meaning every last trace is gone.

Speaking in a light-hearted video while cuddling her cat, Jane joked about getting back into fitness: 

“The surgeon said I can lift some weights so I’m starting with this one!”

Despite facing a second procedure, she kept spirits high, calling it “a pain but not a worry”, adding that her recovery so far has been far easier than expected just 10 days on.

The star also opened up about feeling “lucky” her cancer was caught early, praising the importance of routine screening. 

She revealed she’s now considering further treatment options, including the drug Tamoxifen, and has been seeking advice on its side effects.

Jane first revealed her diagnosis last month, describing the whirlwind of tests that followed, from biopsies to MRIs, while leaning on humour, audiobooks and puzzles to get through.
