Antonio Banderas has recently revealed his struggles in Hollywood as he entered the industry after building his career with roles in Spanish movies.

The Spanish actor reflected on his early years, saying, it was difficult for him to receive opportunities in the industry and could only get roles in villains.

“They said, you are here, like the Blacks and the Hispanics, to play the bad guys,” said the 65-year-old in a new interview with the UK's The Times.

The Spanish actor, who first starred in an American movie with the 1992 musical The Mambo Kings, told the outlet that the “problem was a few years later I had a mask, hat, sword and cape and the bad guy was Captain Love, who was blond and had blue eyes”.

Then Antonio went on saying that his role is “even more important is Puss in Boots, because it's for young kids”.

“They see a cat that has a Spanish, even an Andalusian accent and he's a good guy,” stated the Spy Kids actor.

Elsewhere in the interview, Antonio confessed that Hollywood had been “off limits to Spaniards” in the years before he started acting in American productions.

The Desperado actor shared that some Spaniards held “huge inferiority complex” during the country's dictatorship under Francisco Franco in the 20th century.

“I didn’t speak English, but little by little I made a career for myself there,” he spilled to the outlet.
