Stranger Things fans were left in surprise after a piece of season one script went viral.
Joe Keery, who played Steve Harrington in all five seasons of Netflix original, turned out that his character was really very messed one.
Steve started as a jock who used to think the world bend on his command, however, he redeemed and became a beloved character of the show.
Meanwhile, in the original script, which has gone viral on social media showed him dragging a reluctant Nancy (Natalia Dyer) to the beach, ignoring her pleas and sexually assaulting her.
A far grimmer scene then the actual pool scene showed in the series.
Previously, in an interview with the GQ in 2017, the End of Beginning singer admitted that he convinced the makers of the show, Duffer Brothers, to remove the scene and make his character flawed but redeemable.
Now with the script screenshot going viral fans has expressed their shock and gratitude for the changes that turned Steve from potential villain into fan favourite character by season finale.
"Learning that Joe Keery’s input was the driving reason Steve wasn’t a rapist ???? f--k the duffer brothers oh my GOD," said one.
Another fan said, "also what would that even add plot wise? just more trauma for nancy?"
One more added, "When I say, 'Thank you, Joe Keery for Steve Harrington,' I do literally mean that cause I credit 90% of Steve's character and story to Joe."
By the end of the series, Steve, becomes a football and sex-ed teacher.
All five seasons of Stranger Things are streaming on Netflix.
