Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle collaboration monologue has been one of the most controversial moments of 2025, and after beating around the bush for a while, it seems like the actress is addressing the controversy head on.
The Euphoria star was accused to promoting eugenics and white supremacy in the ad, because she boasts about how great her genes are, a play of words on jeans.
In a statement to People, the Anyone But You actress has finally cleared her stance on if she supports such ideologies or not.
"I was honestly surprised by the reaction, I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true,” Sydney stated.
She adds, “I’m against hate and divisiveness, In the past my stance has been to never respond to negative or positive press but recently I have come to realize that my silence regarding this issue has only widened the divide, not closed it.”
The backlash for Sydney had only increased after one of her prior interviews, in which she was given the opportunity to clear up her views, but she did not directly denounce the views that were attached to her.
Sydney Sweeney remains in contact with ex-fiancé Jonathan Davino after their wedding was called off earlier this year.
