Scarlett Johansson chooses to support her longtime friend with Woody Allen insisting that loyalty and personal conviction comes first for her.
The 39-year-old actress addressed the continued backlash she endures for defending her dear friend Allen in a new interview with The Daily Telegraph.
For those unversed, Allent was accused of sexual abuse by her adopted daughter Dylan Farrow. He has long denied all allegations against him.
When asked whether her support for the director has cost her work, Johansson admitted it’s impossible to know. “I guess it’s hard to know,” she said. “You never know what the domino effect is, exactly.”
The Black Widow actress credited her upbringing for shaping her as a person by saying, “My mom always encouraged me to be myself… that it’s important to have integrity, and stand up for what you believe in.”
Johansson claimed she can decide for herself when it is time to step back and when not. “It’s also important to know when it’s not your turn… Sometimes it’s just not your time.”
The actress starred in several of Allen’s films in the 2000s including Match Point, Scoop, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona and forged a friendship along the way that has remained steady despite public controversy.
Johansson hasn’t wavered from her past comments. In 2019, she told The Hollywood Reporter, “I love Woody. I believe him… He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”
Her latest remarks make clear that one thing is crystal clear that is she isn’t backing down.
