Dominic McLaughlin, the young actor stepping into Harry Potter’s iconic robes for HBO’s upcoming series, was thrilled to receive a personal letter from Daniel Radcliffe.

The rising star, who landed the coveted role after a massive global search, said he was travelling home to Glasgow when his dad quietly handed him a letter that left him stunned.

During an appearance on BBC’s Saturday Mash-Up! Live, McLaughlin said he instantly recognised the sender.

He recalled trying to stay calm on the packed train as he reached the signature: “Dan R.”

“It was insane,” he said, adding that he “went mad on the inside” but forced himself to keep it together in public.

McLaughlin also shared that filming on the new adaptation is going “amazing,” with the cast quickly bonding on set.

Radcliffe, meanwhile, recently revealed he wanted to offer a few encouraging words to the new generation of wizards, admitting the child actors “just seem so young,” and that he hopes they’re having the time of their lives.

McLaughlin was unveiled as the new Harry in May, beating out thousands of hopefuls.

More than 32,000 children auditioned for the trio, with Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton joining him as Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
