James Cameron is putting forth his stance on Artificial Intelligence in movies, and it appears to join the majority’s opinion.
AI has begun infiltrating many art forms including films, with creations like Tilly Norwood and the technology has also been used in some projects.
In an interview with CBS Mornings, The Terminator director revealed what he truly thought of the technology seeping into movies, adding that he didn’t replace actors with computer graphics even for Avatar.
“For years, there was this sense that, ‘Oh, they’re doing something strange with computers and they’re replacing actors,’ when in fact, once you really drill down and you see what we’re doing, it’s a celebration of the actor-director moment,” James stated.
“Now, go to the other end of the spectrum, and you’ve got generative AI, where they can make up a character, they can make up an actor. They can make up a performance from scratch with a text prompt. It’s like, no. That’s horrifying to me," he added.
Meanwhile the AI actress’s creator, Van Der Velden has defended the entity, saying that it simply the future of the industry, and will slowly gain acceptance.
Yes, James has joined the company, but has said that he wants the tech to be controlled by artists, filmmakers and actors and not be seen as a replacement.
