Scarlett Johansson is discussing her possible lead role in the upcoming reboot of Exorcist.

Director of the upcoming horror movie Mike Flanagan confirmed his wish of including Scarlet in the cast while talking to The Wrap.

While acknowledging the actress’s hard work, Mike said, “Scarlett is a brilliant actress whose captivating performances always feel grounded and real, from genre films to summer blockbusters."

“I couldn't be happier to have her join this Exorcist film,” he continued.

Mike has not shared details about Johansson’s character. However, excitement is building because the new film will not continue the 2023 storyline.

Previously, Mike had made it clear that he would produce an original story this time after his last The Exorcist: Believe struggled at the box office.

Mike said the classic film inspired his entire career. He explained, “The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker.”

He also called the project an honour and promised something “fresh, bold and terrifying.” In a 2024 interview with THR, he said he wanted to make the “scariest movie” of his career.

The movie's director is known for The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep, making the new film one of the most anticipated horror projects in years.

Mike’s Exorcist remake was originally scheduled to release in March 2026 which has now been postponed.
