Stellan Skarsgård reveals why he says no to guiding his actor kids in careers or life as a dad.
The veteran actor is proud to see six of his eight children working in Hollywood like him, but says he’s made a point never to guide them.
Speaking to People, the 73-year-old Dune star expressed his view on offering career and life advice to his kids and how he believes it would only backfire.
“I haven’t given them any advice at all because it is very dangerous to do,” he said.
“Because if they listen to my advice and they’re successful, it’s because of me. And if they listen to my advice and they’re not successful, it’s my fault. So it’s a lose-lose situation,” the actor continued.
Skarsgård’s children, including Bill Skarsgård, who made his name in the industry for his character as Pennywise in the It franchise, have carved out their own successful acting careers.
However, the 74-year-old father and actor said he finds just as much joy in watching his grandchildren grow, who all have different personalities.
“Watching the characters and seeing how different they are,” he said.
“Even if they have the same genes, it’s amazing how different they are. All my eight kids, they’re very different too. There are some things in common, but they all have personalities.”
Skarsgård’s latest film, Sentimental Value, is currently out in cinemas, proving to be another milestone in his decades-long career.
