English actress Keira Knightley has spoken about her 2002 hit movie Bend It Like Beckham and how she still gets compliments for it.
The movie, starring Parminder Nagra and Keira, was a huge hit when it came out.
It was made on a budget of $5.6 million and ended up grossing $76.6 million.
Speaking on the The Graham Norton Show, the Love Actually actress said she still gets told how much people “love” the movie.
The actress said “It’s mainly little girls” who talk about the movie and she has tried to make her daughters watch it but failed.
“I keep trying to get my own girls to watch it, but they are like, ‘you’re OK, we’ll watch the Euros instead’.”, she revealed.
The Imitation Game star said even professional footballers have told her they love the movie.
“I also get a lot of football players saying how much they love the movie, which is lovely.”, Keira said.
The movie was a progressive step in women’s football which became more prominent in sports spaces.
The 40-year-old stars in it as footballer Jules Paxton who makes her Indian Punjabi friend Jess Kaur Bhamra, played by Parminder, achieve her goal of playing professional football.
