Lady Gaga has been left heartbroken after the death of her grandmother, Angelina Calderone Germanotta, who passed away on October 12, just days before turning 95.
According to TMZ, Angelina’s funeral was held on October 17 in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, surrounded by close family.
Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, has yet to make a public statement about the loss.
Notably, the family matriarch was known for her warmth and resilience.
Fans fondly remember her kind words during the Bad Romance singer’s 2021 dog-napping ordeal, when Gaga’s two beloved French bulldogs, Koji and Gustav, were stolen and her dog walker was shot.
Speaking to the New York Daily News at the time, Angelina said: “It’s a cruel world we’re living in… I’m praying this young man recovers, and I hope the dogs are found safe.”
“She’s a very unique and wonderful young woman,” she added, praising her granddaughter’s compassion.
The sad news comes as the 39-year-old-singer continues her Mayhem Ball Tour, where she recently told fans at London’s O2 Arena she plans to keep performing for the next 20 years.
“It’s been nearly 20 years, and I promise I’ll make a lot more music,” she said to the cheering crowd.
Lady Gaga took her stage name from the Queen song Radio Ga Ga.
Her producer once compared her singing style to Freddie Mercury’s, and the nickname “Gaga” stuck.
She later added “Lady” to give it a more theatrical, glamorous touch.
