Stranger Things stars Caleb McLaughlin and Sadie Sink reflected on the nerve-wracking scene from Season 4 that was the hardest to shoot.
Recently, the cast of Netflix’s hit sci-fi horror series rewatched Season 4 in a new video, featuring Sink, McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, and Vecna himself, Jamie Campbell Bower.
Toward the end of the video, McLaughlin revisited Max’s levitation scene. “Yeah, this scene was sad, actually, to film,” he muttered.
“Not gonna lie, Sadie did a great job, as well as Priah, her intensity running in,” McLaughlin praised.
The star then revealed that they filmed Max’s scene in the Creel House attic, while the Void sequences were shot on separate days.
“You give your performance, you feel good about it, and it’s like, ‘Wait, we have to re-create that in the Void,’” Sink said.
As the scene was deeply emotional, McLaughlin found it challenging to perform again in a different setting and location.
“I’m like, ‘How do I get back to this same feeling?’ Just having to cry a lot in different takes was very draining,” he said.
Still, McLaughlin was grateful that the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross Duffer, allowed him to improvise.
“We want the audience to feel this scene, so we want you to improv it, have fun, go with the flow,” the creators told the actor.
Stranger Things 5’s first four episodes will be released on November 26 on Netflix.
