‘Chainsaw Man’ movie shatters records after ‘Demon Slayer’ success

Sony and Crunchyroll are facing yet another raging success with the release of the Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc movie.

The anime is looking at a $15.5M-$17M opening after making a whopping $8.5M on Friday.

Fans of the anime have been praising the film all across social media, with Screen Engine/Comscore’s PostTrak getting a 82% definite recommend.

Reze Arc marks this as the 9th anime movie that has opened near the $10M opening, which is a remarkable feat considering the usual medium of the genre.

What marks this as a particularly special feat for Sony is that Chainsaw Man will now be a solid franchise to build upon after the end of the hugely successful Demon Slayer.

“Chainsaw Man faces his deadliest battle yet in a brutal war between devils, hunters and secret enemies,” reads the synopsis of the latest release in the anime.

Some early reviews of the film gush over the animation and storyline as one audience member wrote on IMDb, “MAPPA continues to exceed expectations with breathtaking animation. Visually, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc is cinematic in every sense. The contrast between soft, romantic lighting in the café scenes and the harsh, kinetic energy of the action sequences is striking.
