Prince Andrew has made a shocking decision amid the backlash he faced over his ties with convicted felon Jeffrey Epstein.
The royal family was hit with a major crisis when Andrew’s ties with the convicted felon went public followed by the prince’s former wife Sarah Ferguson’s emails to Epstein surfacing online.
It has now been confirmed that Prince Andrew will renounce his titles, including the Duke of York.
The decision was announced in a statement on October 17.
According to the statement, the decision was made after a discussion with the King.
“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”, the statement read.
It further read, “I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”
Andrew will no longer use his title or the honours which have been conferred upon him.
Continuing the statement, Andrew reiterated that he denies the accusations.
“As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.” the Prince stated.
Previously, Andrew had already ceased to be a “working royal”.
