Beyoncé, known for her chart-topping hits, has led a wave of emotional tributes following the death of R&B legend D’Angelo.
The Lady hitmaker, whose real name was Michael Eugene Archer, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, aged 51, after a courageous battle with cancer.
The 44-year-old singer took to her official website to honour the star, calling him a “pioneer of neo-soul” who “changed and transformed rhythm and blues forever.”
Sharing a striking black-and-white portrait of the late singer, she wrote: “We thank you for your beautiful music, your voice, your artistry. We will never forget you.”
Her former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland also expressed her heartbreak, writing on X: “This one hurts, DEEP! He TRULY IS 1 of 1. Simply gutted by this loss.”
Moreover, Hollywood A-lister Jamie Foxx shared an emotional Instagram post, recalling the first time he saw D’Angelo perform live, admitting he was “in pure awe of [his] talents.”
“God put you here for a reason… but this one hurts like hell,” Foxx added tearfully.
Rapper Tyler, The Creator reflected on how D’Angelo’s 2000 album Voodoo shaped his “musical DNA,” calling him “a savant, a true alien.”
In a statement, the late singer’s family said they were “saddened but eternally grateful” for his “legacy of extraordinarily moving music.”
