George Clooney, famously known for taking bold creative risks, has stunned fans by filming his Broadway smash Good Night, and Good Luck for live TV in just two weeks.
The 64-year-old veteran actor and filmmaker directed, co-wrote and starred in the original 2005 film about TV journalist Edward R. Murrow’s clash with Senator Joseph McCarthy.
Now he has brought the tale back to life with a blockbuster Broadway run earlier this year, taking on the role of Murrow himself on stage.
Rather than letting the play be forgotten, Clooney brought it to screens with a daring live broadcast.
Speaking to Deadline, the Wolfs star revealed: “We had 27 cameras, nine trucks parked out on the street. We loaded in on Friday night during the Broadway show, did a dress rehearsal Saturday afternoon, and then Saturday night we were live on air, man."
Furthermore, he revealed that the production was shot “like a movie” rather than a static stage play and aired live on CNN before being packaged for streaming platforms.
“We wanted it elegant, beautiful – like a proper film – but also with the energy of a live audience. We’re proud we pulled it off,” he added.
Good Night, and Good Luck: A Night on Broadway lands on Amazon Prime and other streaming services from Friday, October 3.
