Woody Allen opened up about his past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein, recalling his behaviour at dinners.
In conversation with The Sunday Times, the 89-year-old director revealed how the financier told them he’d been “falsely put in jail.”
He recalled that at a dinner with his wife, Soon-Yi Previn, Epstein had just finished prison time for soliciting an underage girl for prostitution and was “very nice.”
Allen said, “He told us he was trying to make up for it now by being philanthropic and giving money to cutting-edge scientists and universities. He couldn’t have been nicer.”
The Oscar winner also admitted that the couple soon became regulars at these dinner invites at Epstein’s house, where “there was always a table of illustrious people”.
And later added that they never saw the convicted felon with underage girls, he was always with his girlfriends, “but never an underage girlfriend.”
Notably, Epstein passed away from suicide in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in 2019, while he was awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
His girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted in 2021 on five of the six federal charges relating to recruiting and grooming underage girls. She is currently serving a 20-year sentence.
As of now, the political tension regarding the Epstein list is under heated debate over whether to release it to the public or not.
The Epstein List is thousands of pages of court documents that mention the names of his associates, friends, and alleged victims. The public speculates that the list consists of A-list actors, royals, businessmen, and politicians.
