Reese Witherspoon has confirmed the previous news about Big Little Lies being renewed for Season 3.
On Thursday, Sept. 11, the Oscar-winning actress shared her excitement about getting the gang of the show back together during an interview with Jimmy Fallon.
“We might be working on Season 3. Yeah, I mean, they’re writing it,” Witherspoon teased. “It’s exciting too, just to get the gang back together and have everyone start talking about it. It’s really fun.”
Witherspoon recalled that it’s “been a minute” since the cast has all been together and nearly a decade since the first season was filmed.
“It’s been about 10 years, maybe nine years?” she added. “All those little kids [who] were in second grade, they’re all teenagers now. And being a mom of a teenager, it’s a lot of big little lies.”
Earlier on Thursday, HBO officially confirmed that Big Little Lies is returning for a third season, with Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-creator Francesca Sloane set to pen the premiere episode and serve as executive producer.
Witherspoon will once again lead the star-studded ensemble alongside Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Adam Scott, Alexander Skarsgård and others.
Adapted from Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, the drama revolves around five women and their children whose lives unravel following a homicide investigation. The show’s second season, which expanded beyond the book with new material by Moriarty, wrapped up in July 2019.
However, it’s still unclear whether the third season of Big Little Lies will address the time gap after Season 2. At the same time, a sequel novel from Moriarty is due out next year.
