Gigi Hadid spills truth about auditioning for Rapunzel

Disney had been aiming for a live-action remake of Tangled, and Gigi Hadid eagerly auditioned for the role of Rapunzel, but the project stalled before moving forward.

The supermodel was especially enthusiastic about pursuing acting more seriously, following a handful of cameos and roles over the years, including Ocean’s 8. To prepare for the audition, Hadid even took singing lessons, as she revealed in her new Vogue cover story.

“What do we do in this job anymore that scares us?” Hadid asked her cover co-star and longtime friend Kendall Jenner before expressing her excitement about the Tangled audition process.

“I was really proud of my scene. The singing… I knew they were going to go with a real singer, but I’ll show you my audition scene later,” Hadid added with a laugh.

Back in December 2024, reports surfaced that Disney was developing a live-action adaptation of Tangled, with The Greatest Showman and Better Man filmmaker Michael Gracey in talks to direct from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who also helmed the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. Casting, however, was never officially confirmed.

By April, the remake was reportedly put on indefinite hold, following the box-office collapse of Disney’s live-action Snow White.

Meanwhile, Corey Mylchreest, known for Queen Charlotte and My Oxford Year, shared with Seventeen Magazine over the summer that he auditioned for Flynn Rider — though unlike Hadid, he admitted he wasn’t nearly as confident in his singing skills.
