Hungarian-born British–Australian professional boxer Joe Bugner has passed away atthe age of 75.
Joe, whose real name was József Kreul Bugner, breathed his last in his care home in Brisbane, Australia.
The news of his death was announced on Monday, September 1.
The former British, European and Commonwealth heavyweight champion competed in the heavyweight division, and also worked as an actor in multiple projects.
A statement was released by The British Boxing Board of Control that read, “It is with great sadness that the former British, European, Commonwealth heavyweight champion and world championship contender Joe Bugner has passed away at his care home in Brisbane, Australia.”
The boxing board offered their condolences to Joe's family.
Joe’s rival, Frank Bruno, also paid his tribute to the late boxer.
While it is not revealed what was the eventual cause of his death, it was widely known that the boxer suffered from cancer severe dementia.
The late star had been residing in Australia since 1986.
The boxer, who was also dubbed as “the Harmless Hercules”, was one of the opponents of boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
