Austin Butler, best known for his Oscar-nominated role as Elvis Presley, has revealed he suffered a health scare after experiencing temporary blindness.
The 34-year-old actor told the latest issue of Men’s Health magazine that, in 2023, he had been travelling to film The Bikeriders.
While on the way to the shoot, he awoke abruptly with a crushing migraine as the plane landed.
He said he feared he was “dying” when he realised he had lost his vision.
“It felt like the life was being sucked from my body,” he recalled. “I suddenly felt a euphoric sensation, and I genuinely thought I was dying.”
Although his sight gradually returned, Butler went on to work on set for the entire day.
He later dismissed the incident as a consequence of sleep deprivation.
The Elvis star admitted he had long believed acting required “torture” and had endured multiple health issues as a result, including months of foot pain after promoting Dune: Part Two.
“For a long time, I felt it had to be a tortured process, and I would come out the other side broken,” he said.
On the professional front, Butler starred in Ari Aster’s Eddington and has Enemies, co-starring Jeremy Allen White, coming up.
Austin Butler dated the Spring Breaker’s actress Vanessa Hudgens for almost 10 years.
The pair were first seen out in late 2011, when they attended the 30th birthday party of Ashley Tisdale’s sister, Jennifer.
