A new group has taken over the Billboard Hot 100 list - and it’s a fictional one, namely, Huntr/x from the movie KPop Demon Hunters.
Notably, this makes them the first K-pop girl group to have ever taken the top spot in the music chart with their track Golden.
Songs from the animated films have been dominating the top 5 spots in the Billboard Global 200 including Golden, Soda Pop and Your Idol.
The voices behind the the song include seasoned figures in the music industry including songwriter, Kim Eun-jae, Korean American singer Audrey Nuna and songwriter-rapper Rei Ami.
In a surprising turn of events and a rare occasion for K-pop tracks, the songs from the movie are also being played on American radio, with its airplay numbers going up by a whopping 70%.
“A world-renowned K-Pop girl group balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as demon hunters,” reads the synopsis of the film.
The movie has taken the internet by storm ever since it was released on Netflix, with countless videos on social media discussing the film, covering its songs and doing dance routines. Actual K-pop idols have also joined in on the fun, participating in the trends.
