Selena Gomez reveals how she became friends with Taylor Swift

The friendship of Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez is one of the rare occasions where two pop stars have remained friends for almost two decades.

While the pop music industry is full of competition and celebrities cutting off others who they were once close to, the two singers have remained close even in 2025.

The two first met when Selena was a rising star coming from Disney’s fame taking the pop music route while Taylor was releasing country music.

In 2008, both the pop icons were dating the Jonas Brothers. Selena was infamously on-and-off with Nick meanwhile Taylor had a brief relationship with Joe, who she wrote Forever & Always about.

While the relationships did not last, they became close friends and over years their bond had only grown stronger.

In conversation on the Therapuss podcast with Jake Shane, Selena opened up about the friendship.

“Taylor and I dated the Jonas Brothers. I dated Nick and she dated Joe. And everything was… it was cute, we were young,”, Selena began.

Selena admitted that her and Taylor agree “the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other”.

The pop star also revealed a special musical moment with Taylor when the Blank Space singer gave her the first listen of her song Love Story from the Grammy winning album Fearless.

After listening to the song, Selena believed “this is one of the most beautiful songs ever”.
