Matt Cameron, the veteran drummer of the rock supergroup has stepped down from Pearl Jam after nearly three decades.
The 62-year-old took to Instagram on Monday, July 7, 2025, and announced the decision to quit the band.
American drummer, who has been with the group since drummer Jack Irons left, wrote in a statement: “After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam.”
Cameron also honoured his bandmates saying: “Much love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me into the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter.”
He further thanked his fans for massive support: “I am forever grateful to the crew, staff and fans the world over. It has been an incredible journey…I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
In another statement, Pearl Jam’s members collectively expressed admiration for Matt Cameron’s unforgettable contributions.
The bandmates wrote in a post: "From being one of our first musical heroes in the bands Skinyard and the mighty Soundgarden, to playing on our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer.”
For the unversed, Matt Cameron started his career as a drummer for legendary grunge band Soundgarden from 1986 until the band broke up in 1997. He joined Pearl Jam in 1998.
Cameron is a two-time inductee in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his phenomenal work with both bands.
