Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey’s Jurassic World Rebirth earned an impressive RMB 184.8 million ($25.7 million) in its opening weekend (July 4–6).
The film, directed by Gareth Edwards revitalizes the beloved dinosaur franchise with a fresh cast, including Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, Ed Skrein, and David Iacono besides the lead actors.
Despite facing competition from strong holdovers, Jurassic World Rebirth claimed the No. 1 spot, with IMAX screenings contributing $5.5 million of its China total. The film marks a new era for the Jurassic series, blending cutting-edge visual effects with a gripping storyline that has resonated with audiences worldwide.
TMS Entertainment’s Detective Conan: The Movie – One-Eyed Flashback came second with $8.4 million in its second weekend.
Warner Bros. and Apple Original Films’ F1: The Movie raced into third with $7.7 million, pushing its total to $21.8 million. The high-octane racing drama, starring an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt, saw $2.5 million of its weekend earnings come from IMAX screens.
The weekend’s total earnings reached $58.3 million, contributing to China’s year-to-date box office total of $4.15 billion. It indicates a 22.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
While the three previous Jurassic movies introduced a new dinosaur villain that is then killed at the end, in Jurassic World Rebirth the Distortus rex acts as villain.
