Craig Charles sparks stir after sudden withdrawal from fan convention
A Coronation Street star raised eyebrows when he suddenly cancelled a fan event due to illness.
The 60-year-old Craig Charles is well-known to fans for his ten years as Lloyd Mullaney on the ITV program, but he is also adored for his role in another beloved classic.
The actor, who starred as Dave Lister in the BBC sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, was aligned to attend London Film and Comic-Con on Sunday.
Fans had wished he would attend the event with Hattie Hayridge, Robert Llewellyn, and Danny John-Jules.
The event's organisers confirmed on Facebook that Craig would not be going on Sunday morning.
They stated in a since-deleted post, “We contacted Craig at 9am to be told that due to a family emergency he would be in until 11am.”
"We knocked on his hotel room door for twenty minutes at 11:30 am, but no one answered," they added.
“His Red Dwarf colleagues were able to contact him at 12.30 where he confirmed he was ill and unable to attend. These are the facts.”
They added, “The Group shot will go ahead with Danny, Robert and Hattie and ticket holders will receive an automatic £60 refund to allow for the change of line up.”
“If anybody does not want the group shot, any unused tickets will automatically be refunded after the show.”
A video of organisers rapping on Craig's hotel room door was also included in the post, but it was removed a few minutes later.
