Ever since Pusha T revealed that Kendrick Lamar would appear on his upcoming album, fans were naturally excited.
The buzz reached another level when King Push, who has a long history with K.Dot’s rival, Drizzy, made a surprise appearance on the Grand National Tour at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
However, the New Yorker recently shared that Universal Music Group (UMG) had attempted to remove the Compton native’s verse from his new project.
After releasing the Travis Scott diss track So Be It, Pusha disclosed to GQ Magazine that his new album would be released by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation because of the disagreement.
Industry analysts speculated that the record label wanted to delete the snippet due to Lamar’s feud with Drake, but the Grindin hitmaker has now finally revealed the real reason behind the initial removal.
In a recent interview on The New York Times’ Popcast, the 48-year-old said that UMG blocked Lamar’s line because “they didn’t want any problem with Trump.”
The artist shared that the label “pinpointed” a verse about US President Donald Trump, which he believes is not controversial at all.
Pusha went on to call UMG’s precautions “stupid” and speculated that they might be “looking” for political favours.
What is the name of Pusha T’s new album?
Pusha T has reunited with Clipse partner and brother Malice to produce their new studio album, Let God Sort Em Out.
The project is produced by Pharrell Williams and is set to come out on 11 July with appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Nas and John Legend.
