R&B legend Wayne Lewis passes away

R&B fans are mourning the loss of a genre pioneer after it was revealed that Wayne Lewis has tragically passed away.

Lewis founded the legendary band Atlantic Starr alongside his brother David and Jonathan in 1976.

The vocalist contributed numerous R&B hits throughout the 1970s and 80s, including the first Billboard entry, Circles.

However, the group reached new heights when they released their song Always, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lewis died on June 5 at the age of 68 and his death was announced by his band on social media.

“It’s with great sadness we have to post the passing of Wayne Lewis on June 5, 2025. Please keep the family in your prayers and respect their privacy. #waynelewis #restinpeace #flyhigh Sunrise 4/13/1957 Sunset 6/5/2025 #restinpeaceWayne,” Atlantic Starr wrote on Facebook.

The artist’s official cause of death has not been disclosed at the time of writing this article.
