Hollywood icon Robert De Niro sat down for an interview with CNN where he opened up about a role that he had to take up against his will.
The project he is referring to is the screenplay for The Good Shepherd from Eric Roth. About playing military general, Bill Sullivan, “I never thought of playing the part. was discussing who we could get, and one of the studio executives said, ‘Why don’t you do it?’ I said, ‘OK, maybe I could do it, and whatever I get for that I’ll put back into the movie’. That’s why I did the part.”
Others in the star studded cast included Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, however, the film still ended up becoming a flop.
“Edward Wilson, a spy, lays the foundation for the CIA as he works in the OSS. However, as the Cold War begins, he realises that he has to pay a price for his dedication to duty over family,” reads the synopsis to the film.
De Niro had been hoping to make sequels, but the first one did not make enough money to justify their creation.
