‘The Last Of Us’ creator claps back at critics
In 'The Last Of Us' Bella Ramsey plays the role of Ellie, who is immune to the virus that has destroyed the world
The Last Of Us showrunner Craig Mazin is responding to criticism against the main character, played by Bella Ramsey.
The 21 year old Game of Thrones actress plays the role of young Ellie, who is immune to the virus that has destroyed the world.
In the first season, Ellie was 14 years old, in the new one, she is now 19. Even though Ramsay is older than the character, some people have leveled criticism that the actress’ youthful appearance makes them an odd choice for the role.
Mazin said to The Hollywood Reporter, “Ellie in the game looks much older. Some people do change quite dramatically and some people don’t.”
He continued, “I’m not interested in the physical aspect – although I’ve been looking at Bella’s face for years while editing, and I can see that they’ve certainly grown. I’m interested in the emotional maturity, and the change in personality.”
About their height of 5’1 and how it translates to fight scenes, he remarked, “How does a small person fight with a big person? It’s not going to be karate. It’s not going to be awesome punches and kicks – they’ll lose.”
“The answer is Juujitsu. I watch a lot of jiujitsu and I’ve specifically watched sessions where a small person is taking down a big person. That’s how that would happen because nobody’s f****** around in this world,” Mazin explained.
