Legendary actor Val Kilmer, best known for his iconic roles in "Top Gun" and "Batman Forever," breathed his last at the age of 65.

The actor's death's announcement was met with an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues worldwide.

The film star’s daughter Mercedes Kilmer on Tuesday, April 1, revealed that he lost the battle to pneumonia in Los Angeles.

Kilmer, who had starred alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, had previously recovered from throat cancer, a disease he struggled with since 2014, his daughter told The New York Times.

The No Country For Old Men star had undergone a tracheostomy, a procedure in which a tube is inserted in a person’s neck to help them breathe, along with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Kilmer had told the world that he was cancer-free in 2020.

Given his popularity after the breakthrough role as naval aviator Lt. Tom “Iceman” Kazanski in the 1986 classic, fans poured in heartfelt tributes for the late actor.

"Remembering Val Kilmer, whose indelible cinematic mark spanned genres and generations. RIP Iceman," one netizen expressed on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Another added, "It’s so sad…I’m so sorry…[heartbroken emoji] I grew up with his movies! He was a great man and a great actor, RIP."

Notably, actor Josh Gad and Josh Brolin also took to social media to praise the deceased actor, expressing their admiration and fond memories.
