Zooey Deschanel attended the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards along with her fiance, Jonathan Scott where she discussed her daughter Elsie, 9, and son Charlie, 7.
“They’re really into making little movies,” she told E! News, “They love movies. We watched The Maltese Falcon with them the other day, and they were totally into it.”
“They love black and white films,” she added, “Our 7-year-old watches Godzilla movies in Japanese and he’ll cry if it's dubbed into English.”
“Which I would expect with the history of film in your family,” Scott chimed in, “I feel like they have to keep the bar raised.”
He’s referring to how Deschanel’s father is an Oscar nominated cinematographer, while her mother, Mary Jo Deschanel and sister, Emily Deschanel are both actresses.
While Scott is the set captain, the New Girl actress has a bigger part to play, “I make little short films with them,” she revealed, adding that she also stars in and directs some of the projects, “but then they start doing them on their own too, so it’s kinda awesome.”
Deschanel has two children, a 9 year old daughter named Elsie Otter and a 7 year old son named Charlie Wolf from her ex-husband, Jacob Pechenik.
Their divorce was finalized in 2020 after being married for four years and their split was announced towards the end of 2019. The explanation they provided was that they were "better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents."
